carl-

so, let me tell you .....

our lights were flickering.
not just flickering, but they'd
get bright whenever the fridge
started up - and it was happening more
and more frequently.

yesterday - i think it was yesterday -
i was on the phone and static interrupted
the call. then i smelled something acidic
- like wires burning. i dashed upstairs,
following the smell and it came from
h-man's desk. his surge protector had a
melt down - literally. the plastic had
melted.

i yanked out all the cords.

harold came in just then and checked the
main breaker and then just plugged in
our electric pencil sharpener (which we
salvaged from our office stuff) and the
smell came back again - this time, my
surge protector.

so, we called BC Hydro and they came out
to check the wires going into the house
and found that the 'nutral' wire was just
about totalled shot, so that the current
instead of grounding outside, would come
back in and double - or some such thing.
anyway, we were smelling burning wires!!

when the linesman finished working, everything
worked inside the house except the microwave
and my computer :(

we had a new power box installed in it today
along with ups battery surge protectors on
both computers.

but, the power surges were still happening
when the fridge started up, so called hydro
again and they had to replace the box at the
pole that fed power to the house. that wire
which originally had about 6 or 8 strands, only
had two left in tact.

so, that's how come i haven't sent my pictures
of the scallops yet.

but, here they are now.

silverbeaver.net

i don't think it was worth the wait.
the agates don't look that great and the
scallops don't look that big.

one really had to be there at the time.

gosh, life on the island is sure hectic.

what's new with you?
