The problem is that the initial decision was SO bad, that continuing to support that "plan" (and I use that word loosely, since it is clear there really wasn't much a plan to start with) is stupid. If your spouse commits the family to a plan that kills one of your children, puts a huge second mortgage on the family house, and threatens to kill more of your children, and the "plan" doesn't seem to have much future, then it's time to tell your spouse to take a flying leap, and that their initial decision doesn't mean you are committed to continue their error indefinitely.

Not that some people don't love to pursue policies of error indefinitely, and I'm sure it's human nature to proselytize, even when you are trying to spread a loser of an idea- but really, is it very convincing to anyone else? Judging by the polls, obviously not.
