OK, if that is what Crichton (and/or you) mean by bringing up the FDA I can agree with the point. I just think the FDA is not the best example. It would be better if the EPA was more like the FDA in this one specific way, but I don't think in general the FDA is a good example to emulate.

Yes, but some things are self evident, and that is why the British have the nickname "limeys"... We do not need a scientific study for safe natural foods like oranges, which of course can cure scurvy in most cases.
I have nothing against unbiased scientific studies, but that is a huge problem, getting the studies done fairly and correctly with no political or "heavy pockets" involved messing up the end results.
