That's quite true.

And from that perspective - namely, that of statists vs. non-statists - it's quite laughable to hear legions of the same people who "fight" (or what passes for it) against the war in Iraq simultaneously justify...indeed, support and encourage the growth of...such coercive government fixtures as taxation, affirmative action schemes, and regulatory bodies to cover every texture and striation of human interaction.

The intrinsic nature of the State escapes them entirely.

"More government" is and often has been a cause for politicians and special interest groups all across the political spectrum. Bigger government means they have more power and influence. The desire for such power and influence (and often popularity as well) often trumps ideology.
