The Dormitory project in Vietnam is done!

Opening Day is on the 30th!

Here is a picture of some of the construction crew...the dorm is behind them, to the left you see the well we built 2 years ago. We refurbish it, and built a covered toilet and bathing area. The dorm has it's own bathrooms, but these serve the rest of the pagoda community..

Mannie~

Right now, we are wrapping up construction of a new garden that is 3 acres cut out of the forest...at least 80% of that area will be planted with native materials to re-establish habitat and knit the forest back together somewhat..

sounds like a neat project and it must be interesting researching plantings. it's great to see people taking a more natural approach to landscaping and employing native plants. not all that many years ago, those who wanted to do so would often encounter opposition from municipalities for allowing "weeds" to grow on their properties. My brother just finished planting a garden of wild plants and just by chance, I happened to come across a reference to someone on his same block who had done so about 10 years ago and had to take on the city to keep his wild garden -- my brother says the neighbour's garden is actually quite tame -- mostly native tall grasses -- but I guess that the garden freaked out some of the neighbours back then! nice to see that things are changing.
