"You must have been a Buchanan fan."

Not particularly... but many of his views DO represent very traditional Republican orthodoxy... it's this 'new-fangled' Big Deficit, Big Government Bush wing that appears to have adopted --- practically verbatim --- traditional Democrat views....

"Sometimes I get angry and want to withdraw to the AMERICAN HEMISPHERE, include South American, North American including Canada, set up an impenatrable defense line and tell the rest of the world to go to hell. Then I wake up and realize that would be a disaster not only for the world but for us."

Note:

1) I never said anything about 'withdrawing' to our continent... I merely pointed out that there are LOTS of ways to have 'disasters', and spending yourself into OBLIVION --- while rising powers grow their economies and wealth and technology and job bases --- is one of the surest ways.

History is full of examples of Empires that declined and or fell for just the same reasons.

(Do you really believe it is wise for the US to spend more annually on 'defense' then the entire rest of the World, combined? Is that the best way to remain the 'world's only Super Power'? Or the surest way to bring about an END to that title?)

PS --- there ain't no such thing as an 'impenetrable' defense.
