I'm quite upset about it.

I certainly understand your pride in your city, C2. I think the article from the WSJ by Charles Murray that I posted this morning was spot on. Message 21747045

Your "underclass" was much larger than most cities have. I say "was" because I think a lot of them will resettle where they now are. Add to that the fact that the police force was undermanned and poorly run and that the publicity of the activities at the superdome were overdone, and you had both a real and a PR catastrophe.

c2, one of the things that LA is really going to have to work on is PR, after the debacle of Katrina, thanks to the lackluster Mayor and Governor. I would assume that tourism is important in NO. I personally have always wanted to visit there, for all sorts of reasons. BUT now, even after the clean up, I would have to think about it when considering my choices of vacation spots.

Are the police just goof offs or are they serious? If they are serious, why did they need a vacation in Vegas after 5 days of hard duty, and why did 800 of the 1500 quit? What were the percentages of those policemen and firemen in NYC after 9-11 who behaved in that way?

Why are so many people waiting with their hands out and still so very poor, even after 3 generations of serious welfare to help with a hand up...?

Why would the citizens there even consider asking the Feds/taxpayers to help them to rebuild facilities that remain BELOW THE SEA LEVEL? What sense does that make when another storm hits....? ETC.

There are so many questions that cry for answers, but no sound is heard.
