Credit where it's due neolib, Agreed on the good works. I was focusing more on how things might turn out in Iraq, hence looking for examples that are more similar. Japan & Germany, were the two in your list that seemed closest, since we invaded them, and they didn't want us there. But there is a world of difference between Adolf's Final Solution and Abu Grahib and Guantanamo Bay Very true. Let's not be naive. The Koran and Islamic Jihad [which is a LOT of Moslems] have an avowed and declared aim of destroying infidels, apostates, taking their property and bringing Allah's rule and dhimmitude to everywhere. A military defence is the only way of stopping people bent on megalomania. A militaristic USA is able to keep them at bay. Unfortunately, they are flooding into Europe and here, and if Moslems believe as they say they do, we can expect "Rivers of blood" as per Enoch Powell decades ago. Which London recently experienced on bus and tube. This is where I depart company a bit with you. The problem as I see it is that many westerners fail to examine themselves in the same light. There are lots of Jews who think God has told them to occupy all of their historical homeland, at the expense of any non-Jews found living there. They've made some good progress along those lines. There are many Christians in the USA who hold the same view, and vote accordingly, since their particular reading of the Bible tells them the same thing. The Muslims, oddly enough have noted this. There are other Christians who think the Pope is the Anti-Christ, and that Catholics will persecute the true believers in the end. It goes on and on. Both Jews & Christians sit on a very large nuclear stockpile. Muslims don't. Both sides have of plenty of rhetoric which is actually fundamental to their beliefs. Followers of these religions nominally claim to believe such things. The truth is, most religious people don't act on their beliefs, which is a very good thing for the planet as a whole.
