Morally or ethically, Iran probably has as much right to develop/acquire whatever it wants, as did the US, China, Pakistan, Israel, etc. etc.

But another part of me hopes they don't. Why oh why cant they just lay down and take their punishment?

yes, and after iran was so friendly to the usa when jimmy carter was president too. how could they have changed so much that they now want nukes.
