John:

If Nixon had won the election and the Bay of Pigs succeeded, which it would have, there would not have been a missile crisis. No?

We got out of that one because it was handled, extremely adeptly. Backed off the "bomb them into the stone age" crowd

Nixon would have put troops in and invaded Cuba. Without a blink of an eye. The left would have screamed, but not too loud. It was obvious Castro was a communist even then. The Cubans would have been spared the last 45 years of hell.

Without a communist Cuba, no "Cuban Missle crisis." Kruschev took Kennedy's measure at his first meeting, and knew he was a weakling. That is why we almost had a nuclear war.

I know you have read the recent history books. It's hard to give up a hero, but Kennedy turns out to be a little rich boy who's father bought him the Presidency. His weakness almost killed you and me.
