During the hearing, the commanders also promised to investigate media concerns about the increased number of journalists detained or accidentally killed by U.S. forces in the country, which the Committee to Protect Journalists describes as the most dangerous place in the world for reporters. At least 66 journalists and media workers have been killed covering Iraq since March 2003, many by American forces. Others have been detained on unspecified charges, and at least four journalists, including a CBS News employee and three Reuters staffers, remain in American custody.
