Re: Nixon

I was channel surfing last night, and happened across the two-hour PBS presentation "The Sixties." Not sure when the film was made, but it must've been some time ago as Pat Buchanan, who was interviewed, looked considerably younger than he does today.

With respect to Nixon, the documentary made the point that while Nixon had Kissinger negotiating with the North Vietnamese over an end to the war, he was also secretly sending messages to the North Vietnamese that he was willing to ramp up to escalate the war and possibly to use nukes.

I have not studied these events so can't comment on the accuracy of what was portrayed.

If true, however, the portrait of Nixon is hardly one of a conservative player unwilling to take risks.

As for JFK, I have maintained for some time that had he not been martyred, the assessment of his presidency would be quite harsh.
