Al, as usual, you're trying to change the subject. So what about Frist, DeLay, Hastert, Clinton, or Kosovo? We're talking about Bennett.

Tench, it's obvious you have no idea what my original point was, nor do you really care etc..etc...

So let me do you a favor and tell you what the liberal media won't tell you: Mr. Bennett was talking about the liberal correlation between an increase in abortions and a reduction in crime. His statement about blacks is just a straw man argument to demonstrate what sort of conclusions are possible when you make such correlations between abortion and crime.

Wow...impressive power of deduction..you must have read the last paragraph in the article twice.

Could he have made the point without bringing up race? Perhaps, but I don't see you liberals going ballistic when it's one of your own making unnecessary racial remarks. And I can cite many examples, starting with Hurricane Katrina alone.

Gee, you just made the same point I made two posts ago...now, my question...was he addressing the issue of crime reduction, social security, abortion or race?

Al

White House Condemns Bennett's Remarks

2 hours, 43 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The White House on Friday criticized former Education Secretary William Bennett for remarks linking the crime rate and the abortion of black babies.

"The president believes the comments were not appropriate," White House press secretary Scott McClellan said.

Bennett, on his radio show, "Morning in America," was answering a caller's question when he took issue with the hypothesis put forth in a recent book that one reason crime is down is that abortion is up.

"But I do know that it's true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could, if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down," said Bennett, author of "The Book of Virtues."

He went on to call that "an impossible, ridiculous and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down. So these far-out, these far-reaching, extensive extrapolations are, I think, tricky."

Responding later to criticism, Bennett said his comments had been mischaracterized and that his point was that the idea of supporting abortion to reduce crime was "morally reprehensible."

Bennett was education secretary under President Reagan and director of drug control policy when Bush's father was president.

Whether its a straw man or not is unimportant. The point is Bennet believes the best way to reduce crime is to prevent the birth of black children. First, the utter stupidity of making such a statement publicly in a country as racially diverse as this one. Its hard to believe that GOPers are this stupid.......but there you go. Apparently, they forget to censor their private thoughts when in a public setting.

Secondly, while its true, that blacks commit a greater share of the crimes relative to their population size, its also true that poor people in general commit more crimes than the general population. Its plausible that killing off blacks may not change the crime rate at all. The American economic system may be structured in such a way that it 'guarantees' a certain proportion of the population will be poor; and that if the black population is suppressed through abortion, Latinos or Asians or whites may very well pick up the slack and make up a greater share of the poor in this country, allowing the crime rate to remain fairly constant.

The critical point is there should be a law against Republicans speaking out publicly. They are unable to hide their elitist tendencies and end up enflaming racial tensions in this country.

?? I don't get you. It makes sense that if there are more abortions then there are less single mothers and probably less crime by their children. What's "liberal" about that? It seems to me to be a totally logical conclusion.

And what's the straw man argument? He said committing genocide on a racial class of citizen would reduce crime, what does that have to do with straw men?
