creatures such as horses and humans are down to a very few branches and their survival is endangered.

All large mammals are dependant upon oxygen levels which only recently appeared on earth. We are in the process of lowering oxygen levels worldwide and that will place stress on large mammals. Stress does not always lead to extinction, it could for example lead large animals to become smaller, but stress is a risky environment.
