He's someone even Republicans would vote for. On the GOp side, watch for Chuck Hagel as a "I told you so" candidate disgruntled Repubs could get behind, and there are a growing number of those now. What Kerry and Hillary have are contacts and money. So if they want to run, both will be strong contenders. However, yes I believe Kerry would beat Hillary, but only if by then, the public clearly realizes how badly he was smeared and cheated and he gets his mojo back. If people think he's a loser who won't defend himself, it will be hard for him. So it's up to him to present clear evidence that he was not beaten fairly and to show he can still kick butt. That said, Nixon was a big loser and came back. Reagan also lost. Clinton lost once. GW Bush lost once. Losing sometimes builds character. Also, remember the Dems tried to run a woman once, Geraldine Ferraro. It backfired badly. But one thing Hillary has is Bill behind her which is a huge plus. You can forget about Condi Rice. That's just a smoke screen. In my life I don't remember there ever being a perfect candidate in either party. Everyone has a flaw and a weakness. Clinton and Reagan running for re-election were the strongest. Clinton really wiped out Bob Dole. Anyone who thinks Dems can't come back strong is dreaming. But right now I'm just focused on the present, and 2006. Also, if Jeb Bush won't run then the GOP has no successor to Bush the public could stomach. And it would be hard for most to stomach another Bush for that matter. Especially if Bush is impeached and resigns in disgrace. Frist looks like damaged goods and may go the way of Trent Lott. You can expect a seismic shift in the GOP. McCain and Guliani, of course, are the best known candidates in the middle. They both have a chance if the religious right will move out of the way.
