New Bans Show China's Concerns About Tech

By ANICK JESDANUN, AP Internet Writer

Yeah, it sure isn't freedom of speech. However, after having been there for a brief week and seen what looked to me like a rocking, great economy, it may be that some measure of economic development takes priority over what we consider basic freedoms. In other words, it may be better for the 1.2 billion Chinese to have less freedoms and an amazing economic success story than to have basic freedoms, and perhaps the civil collapse/revolution that they can produce. Not sure what the answer is, but those 1.2 billion people are doing the best that they have been doing in the past century, so you've gotta credit their leadership for something. Maybe freedom of the press in China can just wait another 30-50 years?
