Geode, reality used to be slavery, around the world, with liberal doses of cannibalism thrown in too. <Frankly, like the idea of a 'free market' and 'democracy' these theories don't really work as we expect them to when confronted with reality. I suppose at that time, they said that it was unrealistic to think that serfs and slaves could be free and make their own freely-traded economic decisions. A fine theory to free serfs and slaves but confronted with reality, naive and utopian. In fact, the free market and democracy do work as expected [as I expect anyway].

There has never been a Libertarian country, so you are a little premature to say Libertarianism doesn't work. But then, I guess you'd have been one of the Luddites saying that doing away with serfdom, slavery and introducing the loom would be bad ideas. Most people like things the way they were.
