"it may well be that I am seeing more than is there."

I think that that is not unlikely...

"Also because of my connections to several people who have be molested by Priests my own view of Christianity is somewhat jaded"

That would be one good reason. One also resents the peculiar arrogance that certain people are so much more beloved by the universe that they insist that "their" God will assign you to eternal torment in Hell fire because He is a just and loving God--just because you are of a different religious persuasion--or a humanist, agnostic, or any other form of free thinker.

This maniacal sense of privilege is so revolting that it is little wonder that religious wars continue to consume humanity.

And we pretend that "religious" people have the right to talk with such condescending brutality about how we are "deserving" of the eternal torture that God will dish out to us. And when we tell such people to go p-ss up a rope they are likely to feel offended by our "anger"! After all, they are only doing God's work!

Now if I consider that God thinks so little of you that He INTENDS to cause you agonizing suffering without ending--then how ought I to treat you as a neighbour?! I don't think a loving God would torture good people. So I wonder what kind of a person you are?? Because if I am going to Heaven to eat apples and if you are going to Hell to be burned forever--we really don't have a lot in common now, do we? As a matter of fact--we might just as well have a bloody war! :-)
