That's how it goes in Paris, too. I remember driving up to the Charles DeGaulle Etoile one morning when there was nobody in it. I breathed a sigh of relief and drove into the round point, knowing that I could easily make it two more spokes to my intended exit. But then I grew foolish, and figured that I'd never have another opportunity to drive 360 degrees around the round point again. so I brazenly passed my intended exit point, got half way around the circle, and then someone opened the floodgates. Imagine being in the middle of a mass of cars roughly 20 cars abreast with no lane markings and everyone following some random driving pattern. Under such conditions it is not possible to see and consider everyone around you, so you just keep your eyes directly in front of you and go. If somebody hits you, that's their problem. I'm not sure which is more frightening, Manhattan or Paris.
