Thanks for the link but in that post, Z didn't say that MSFT should be allowed to have a profit margin of 30%. He simply said that gas is a necessary commodity where a quick run up in prices hurts everyone.....the same thing I said. If the oil companies are gouging and causing maximum pain in the market place, why is that acceptable to you? I understand the concept of free markets and charging what the market can bear but in reality, the markets for gas are not all that free and gas is a commodity that most people require. So why are you defending what appears to be gouging by the oil companies?

As for MSFT vs Exxon, the difference in PMs between the two companies may have little to do with pricing and more to do with company efficiency. In other words, the comparison may not be a reasonable one.
