One of the oldest cemeteries in Houston is on Washington Avenue where many who were in the Civil War were buried there when they died and had no headstones. That is where his grave is. They are putting headstones on twelve soldiers graves on Saturday. I have not found out that much yet about the Washington Cemetery Historic Trust yet, because I had no idea it existed, but intend to ask questions at the reception after the ceremonies. They have not asked for money yet, but that may be forthcoming. I have no idea where the money came for all these headstones. I was told by my Mother he was buried there, but since there was no headstone, the family may have forgotten where his plot was as I was never taken there and I don't remember her telling me of anyone that knew where his grave was and I don't remember my grandfather or my Dad ever mentioning his grandfather at all. From what I have read of the family tree, there were several that were married twice so there may be mysteries there that were never discussed amongst too many of my family when I was growing up. My grandfather seemed to be very interested in history and did keep me up many nights pass my bedtime to tell me stories about his life he remembered, but he never talked about his Dad, only his life and I was too young to even think of asking him about him. He was just my Granddad telling me stories of his memories. He lived with my Aunt who sometimes babysat me. The only information I have is what the Trust sent to me and have no other information about him and all my family but my Sister and I are gone and she remembers only family around her growing up, but she has had some pretty good stories to tell. lol

I once read an abstract of some property my grandfather once owned and it was like reading a novel. It stated who was married when, divorced and why, who was judged for the failing marriage and what each got in their settlement of assets, like cows, pigs, chickens, horses, mules, farm equipment, cats, dogs, buggies, furniture, dishes, utensils and jewelry and the house they resided in. I couldn't believe they went into such detail in those and back that far what the reason was for that. And if they argued over anything, it stated what it was. It was a history of almost their entire life during that time the land was their's and passed from one entity to another. I still have some of those old abstracts as I have all of my grandfathers papers up in my attic. He always bought those when he purchased any property of interest and kept them when he sold property, I don't know why he did that either. Been years and years since I have opened up the case they are in and read any of those. They were passed to me because I was the administratrix for my Dad's Will and he had kept them, and I did too. Seems so long ago now.
