Just as a number of the "no" votes on Roberts came from Blue State Dems who will be facing reelection soon, you may see some Red State Republicans up for reelection voting "no" on Miers.

His loyal base will not forget his campaign promise to nominate justices in the image of Scalia and Thomas. Instead they get another O'Connor, or maybe worse, another Souter.
