Actually Reagan left us with huge deficits too, just not nearly as huge as GW's. Delay's corruption makes GW's deficits even worse. It's a real pig pile in the GOP congress at the public trough. Even worse than Reagan's S+L debacle.

Also, in those days, Reagan had a stronger Democratic congress to keep him in check.

Bush Sr. raised taxes. So did Clinton. Once they finally balanced the books in 1993 the economy took off. Markets love not only free money (stimulation) but also balanced books.
