RE: "Most "experts" believe they drastically UNDERSTATE the severity of the situation."

And how exactly would these "experts" form any sort of informed opinion without real world data to base it on?

When CAT builds a factory in Europe and sells a German company a few billion dollars worth of equipment, does that mean the trade deficit got worse?

When INTC builds a chip factory in Taiwan, to build processors which will go into US PCs, does that mean Taiwan is doing a windfall exporting business and has gained a massive technological advantage over the US?

When an American buys a Chevy or Ford manufactured in Canada or Mexico, does that mean Canada or Mexico has become a world leader in the manufacture of automobiles?

When US companies set up an off shore shell to avoid US taxes, does that mean the Cayman Islands has suddenly become a major exporter and manufacturing center?

The answer to all of the above is still no, regardless of the uninformed opinions of self appointed experts. Counting crates on incoming and outgoing container ships is completely useless if the US goods being sold off shore aren't on the boats, and doubly useless if the incoming crates are all from subsidiaries of US companies.
