Right-o, who knew educated Neocons lived in such a fantasy world? Chalabi must have known and giggled (he has that permanent smirk on his face) all the way to the bank.

Frankly, I think the author gives too much credit to Bush. I don't think Bush has a clue as to what is going on and is buying the line that Iraqi batallions will rise up and replace US Troops in a united and peaceful Iraq. Just how much bad news can you tell a guy who is so mentally fragile he campaigns in front of loyalty-oath-signing minions?

Franken tells the story of the guy who went to a super bowl event at the WH. A few months before the invasion he actually spent time explaining the ethnic divisions in Iraq...to Bush. Bush doesn't read, he doesn't allow discussion, he can't deal with bad news....I don't see him having much of a clue about reality on the ground.

I also can't see the US letting the election go sour. By hook or by crook I think they're going to make a huge effort and get the blooming thing through so they can declare another milestone success. The Iraq Neocon/AmericanFascism Lab Experiment is a mess. It's about time the professor pulled the plug and expelled the students.
