People join various societies for a lot of reasons. If I considered IQ to be very high on my value scale, I may join MENSA to meet a potential mate with high IQ. Or if one enjoys geeky conversations and thermodynamic jokes that no one else gets MENSA is good place to hang around...and yes, the need for being a card carrying member of any society may also be due to a feelings of insecurity.

<"I'd rather be in a company of decent loving people than a group of arrogant self indulging mensa members."> I wonder if Sun knows many of them or is just doing the old put-down stereotyping which women, melanin-rich and others have experienced.

I'd be surprised if Mensa members don't have superior "decent loving" characteristics along with their superior IQ.

<Don't you think that belonging to a mensa group indicates a smidgeon of insecurity? g. Ed>

People seem to have a strong need for social grouping and that stems from feels of insecurity when isolated. Not surprisingly either, given what happens to isolated people. You could say the same about most clubs. But there are also the mutual interests and interaction, such as people attending SI conventions on a daily basis. Some even log on from expensive CDMA devices to get their daily fix.

I haven't seen any reports of Mensa members bombing, robbing or otherwise showing up in the wrong statistics.

Sun is a racist! Saying such nasty stereotyping things about the high IQ, who are a distinct and measurable race.
