Centrist progressive is the more accurate term, not "liberal". Liberal connotes left-wing, bleeding hearts, doves, old-style pro-Union liberalism. Democrats these days are many things, including very tough when they have to be, and more fiscally conservative than ever before. Today's democrats stand for eight fundamental things Bushies don't.

Paying as you go by not letting the rich off easy
Using diplomacy as much as possible, war only as last resort
Guarding the environment
Guarding the safety net under our underclass
Regulating industries
Separation of church and state without being non-religous
Getting off oil with new clean fuel tech
Accountability in government

The head of the first Grand Jury said he thought delay was guilty before he heard on bit of evidence, he said he was a democrat. That's not how it's supposed to work, but you libs never did believe in the rule of law
