I have suggested a few that I liked (GSL comes to mind and it has been a nice multi-bagger) and a certain "sewer rat" which provided a modest gain (but sure hasn't been the "home run" I thought it would be). I do recall writing some fairly nasty comments about the likes of Iridium, Rambus, JDSU, IBM, etc. when they were darlings (and all hit the skids). I also recall posting loads of info about several other tech stocks that fell off the cliff after the calls were made. Not that I haven't had my share of total screw-ups and losses, but whining over losses in anything other than a humorous vein is a useless exercise so why bother? Delightfully, I am still making a living at the game (25 years) and the kids are still well fed. I also underline the fact to one and all that I am frequently "Earlie" in my calls.... which has been the cause of MANY of my own losses. As far as "not sticking around", and "casual show-ups", that is dictated by my business activities. When I have spare time, I post frequently. When my time is at a premium, I post not at all. Until recent times, professional relationships (the guys who paid me for my "calls" and commentary) required that my public comments be kept generic in any event. Most of the time, I try to keep my posts generic to the larger economic picture or to the tech sector. I will admit to occasionally mentioning a junior stock I really like which is where I think the average guy has a chance to make a decent gain (and where former institutional clients feared to tread). I also try to refrain from gloating when a good call works out, especially when it is on the short side. I think shorting is a very difficult activity for non-pro market players so while I may mention the occasional position, I don't specifically advocate them. All of the above notwithstanding, your post is an excellent "wake-up call" for me as I do note that since (finally) moving into semi-retirement this year, I have mentioned specific stocks which is not my primary reason for thread participation. Appreciate the comments. Best, Earlie
