IMO the reason we won't leave is the same as the reason we invaded in the first place. If Iraqis were in control of their oil again, they'd sell it and the price go down. It would also be fantastically difficult to come up with any excuses to impose further sanctions, which would give them plenty of money to buy things they need. And of course once they were no longer preoccupied with avoiding being murdered, raped, tortured and mutilated they likely would begin remembering what poorly behaved neighbors they have in Israel. My guess is we'll be there for several more decades unless another Nixon is elected.
