What if you win the lottery while you are on welfare? How is that the product of hard work? What if you are born extremely beautiful? How is that the product of hard work (maybe some pleasant work on the part of your parents, but what work is it of one's own?) What we call good luck might be the product of hard work in some circumstances, but I don't see how it is in all circumstances.

C2, you've already been corrected by two, but I'll add my twopence worth. <Good luck is the product of hard work.> True, there is the old, "The more I work, the luckier I get", idea, but apart from the lottery winner, every living thing has had luck. I don't think we can say a tree had anything but luck in its arrival in the 21st century as a going concern. All of the tree's ancestors were simply lucky. There is good luck and there is intelligence. The difference between them is often difficult to determine in the human realm. Mqurice
