But it's a series of 'books', really of unknown origin, some credited to certain "apostiles", etc. So I don't think it's a 'docrine'... it's not a coherent "work" at all, is it? "Primitive writters and mythologists knew little of reality"- Well I think you said it well when speaking of the level of speaker and questioner vs the listener... (in fact 'reality' is radically subjective, I think you meant the word 'truth', as one could easily argue that even the most dispicable writter was speaking 'his/her' reality)... I think you can find many many very erudite and even scientific persons who find that many teachings {especially those attributed directly to Jesus, supposed quotes if you will} very valuable, truthful, and not authoritarian in the least. "for centuries....." No doubt about that!! There is no doubt that organized religion did MUCH more to muddy and distort truthfulness that did exist. But then as we said a "high level" statement of truth can be incomprehensible to the average or low level mind... so this is not surprising. This has probably been the fate of all religions throughout the ages. This was {IMO} what the reformation was about... forget the church and it's interpretations, control, etc., read the bible. Anyway, as we know the bible wasn't even written for hundreds of years AD, so as in the game 'telephone' meaning was undoubtedly lost as the {relatively} low level listener passed on the truth {if we assume there was such}, and then even to scribes. "Jesus smirks"- Oh, what's that one??? {and of course, who said it?} I thought Jesus specifically wanted teachers to include the 'gentiles' not just the 'chosen people'? Let's wrap up with a JMO here: 1.) All the 'mystics' of ANY religion all report basically the same experince of divinity. 2.) There are written teachings in all of these that parallel each other, and mystics agree that the origional 'teacher' {Christ, Krishna, Buddha, Mohamad} and teachings are of a very high level of truth. 3.) All recent "mystics" of all major religions {this is a mistatement, since the mystics aren't really 'religionists'... it's just that they came 'out of' that religion} validate each others teachings but speak little about them except amoungst themselves {presumably because of the wrath that would ensue from the institutions}. 4.) Most agree that the teachings of the Buddha has reamained the most pure. 5.) The realm of religion is in the non-linear or 'emotional' realm and does not translate well into intellectual contruct. In fact, the Buddhist path is to transcend the {ego} intellect in order to see the truth since all intellectualization is based on ones own point of view. At the highest levels of all mystical experience is peace, love, compassion, humility, etc. etc. Any interpretation of divinity as anything else is by definition a mistake. According to Dr. D. Hawkins "Eye of the Eye", the simply misinterpretation of 'sword' vs "sword of truth" in both Christianity and the Muslim traditions has had horrific ramifications. Dark Comedy? DAK
