Yes... it went over a cliff - but not by much. Funny where logic takes you. I have no doubt, however, that if the Catholic Church or some right wing Christians were dictating our laws that's were we'd be. I was born and raised a Catholic so I have some understanding of the subject.

I respect your position and and agree with it to a point. I am anti-abortion - but think Roe v Wade balances a woman's rights with the obligations of society to protect life. It's fair. I would do whatever I could to persuade women considering abortion to avoid it - but I don't think I have the right to make the decision for someone else - and I don't want government or the church making beginning (or end of) life decisions for us.

Americans are deeply divided on the issue. However, 60% of Americans think Roe v Wade was a good decision.

Not that the polls matter to you or me, but the reason Bush has not appointed a judge guaranteed to vote to overturn Roe v Wade is that Karl Rove reads the polls. All the Republicans need to do to get the right-wing vote is promise to appoint anti-abortion judges. Then they appoint relative moderates like Roberts and Miers to appease the enough of the middle.
Pretty clever politics, actually.

All in all, we are on different sides of the issue and I respect your position sufficiently enough to understand that nothing posted here will change that. It's time to move on.

Namaste.

PS... usually when the question of "sex" appears on a a form I respond "yes". :-)
