Pat. What I found astonishing is that scientists now say the 1918 pandemic "flu" was "avian." How did they suddenly conclude that? It doesn't make sense since the way it spread was from one person to another right across this country. The worst of it lasted from about July to October 1918. Then it stopped. The current avian flu has been around a couple of years, and it is still relatively contained in a world that is much, much smaller because of jet travel than it was 87 years ago.
