I've wondered if all that happened since the 1960's, when the Gov started giving so much to the poor, and then SOME of the poor continued to believe it was "their due"...I've said before, one of my Grandmas was always poor, but was very proud, and tried to make her own way....and by in large, she did. She was proud, and stubborn, and never wanted to be a burden on anyone. Sometimes, it was even hard to give her gifts, for that same stubborn reason.

Some of the ones you mention, are perhaps ones that came new to the area, and decided to just be lazy all their life and let someone else, instead of themselves, plan and run their life. Those that do that, are the very ones that complain about it the loudest....i.e. go to the press, and bellyache that OTHERS aren't doing whatever...quick enough, fast enough, or good enough.
