As you said: "they decided to bar government from establishing a religion or favour one particular religion over another" I agree with this.

Then you say "Religion has been an integral part of government" I sort of agree with this but the founders borrowed from a lot of things in the creation of the constitution.

I'm sure a lot of them read Plato and borrowed some of Aristotle's line of thought - but you would think it nuts to argue that the US should be renamed the United States of Plato.
