It is a screwy product if the VIX can move one way and the future may or may not follow.

*All* futures can do this, given the right conditions. Its just easier with VIX futures because it is a derivative of a derivative of a derivative. Three generations of "forward looking" and you'll get some less-than-normal looking behavior.

Its the nature of the beast.
