The White House is already struggling to keep the Republican base from eroding because of Supreme Court nominee Harriet Miers, hurricane-recovery spending projects, immigration and other issues. I was amazed when he put Karen Hughes in the position of Undersecretary when from what I understand, she was basically an administrative assistant to Bush when he was governor of TX, a position, according to CJ, that is not as important a role in TX as in other states. From what I can see of Miers credentials, its the same kind of thing..........except we now are talking about the Supreme Court and not a job as a questionable ombudsperson to the world. Isn't it the same kind of cronism that we saw with FEMA? ted
