From Rove's perspective, the pardon from Bush is probably more valuable than the immunity from Fitzgerald. Look at the Nixon gang loyalists like G. Gordon Liddy (who got no pardon)- they are revered as heros by the right wingnuts to this day. Any corporation run by sociopaths would love to have proven SS men like them, men willing to do the dirty business necessary and take the fall mute if they're caught.

If Rove gave the chimp up, he'd be a John Dean type figure. John Dean retains a slight odor even among those like me, who appreciated what he did. He supported Nixon through all sorts of crimes, but gave him up really more to save his own ass than out of principle.

The thing that's weird about this is that nobody really seems to know what's going on. This is the most secretive high profile Grand Jury that I remember. Remember the Starr GJ's, there were leaks every day.

The stakes are much higher on this one.
