It's an interesting situation. Miers is certainly not one of the great legal minds of our time... you expect more than a pedestrian lawyer on the USSC. Then you've got the liberals liking her (cause they figure she will be the best they can get), and the conservatives hating her (cause they figure they could have done so much better). Go figure, who could have predicted THIS?

Frankly, even though I support balance (and sanity) on the USSC, it's hard to support this (probably really nice) lady. I personally think that ANY USSC justice shouldn't be identified with any ideology... they should be selected on the wisdom and fairness of their decisions, and their experience. This SHOULD BE above politics.

But I'm a throw back to a different era, when compromise was the way to make things happen, not political suicide. Now, these folks are bought and sold by the corporate special interests... it's just a marketing game.

Sorry for wandering off the topic of the post... it would just be refreshing to see a person nominated based on their competency, not on ideology. Wouldn't that be remarkable and refreshing? Wouldn't that make you think... damn, this is a great country!
