It's even scarier if Cheney believes his own BS. It's less scary that he's deliberately lying for partisan reasons. If he really believes the insurgency is in its last throes, then he's way out of touch with reality. In fact, the Arab League now says Iraq is about to explode into all-out civil war.

BTW: Bush also lied the other day. Most of the trouble in Iraq is not foreign Al Qaida types, but a civil war inside Iraq between ethnic groups. And gues what? That was similar to what the reality turned out to be in Vietnam. The US caught in the middle of a civil war. Not a smart place to be.

Re: "Cheney in particular is a bald-faced liar about Iraq, talking about the insurgency in its final stages.."

One does have to note that in the same week as Cheney said the insurgents are in their last throes, Rumsfeld said it's going to get worse before it gets better. And Rumsfeld said we'll be there for many many years.

Do these guys ever talk to each other?
