They never used Swiss mark but they are still using Schweizer Franken (Franks).
Currently one of the hardest currencies in the world with the other one being Gold.

They have no plans to change that or to apply for full EU membership.
As a matter of fact there are talks about withdrawing their dormant EU membership application, which has been formally valid for 20 years or so and is on ice.

But since a couple of years, as a EU citizen you can reside and work in Switzerland including owning your own business there with no obstacles at all.

What's more, this privilege will now extend to the new EU states. Furthermore the pass control between EU and Switzerland will soon be abolished as Switzerland joins the Shengen treaty.
