What you described is called hashish or hash over here. Pot is dried marijuana, easy burns. Hash can be smoked by itself, but is tricky to keep lit.

Or so I am told.

Absolutely. You can roll it into a joint or put it some piece of paraphernalia and light it. Burns nicely, smells fairly pleasant.

Of course, the best way to get the effect is to eat it...
