that's the one!
yep..you plant those along your back fence
and you won't see anyone hopping it a year
or two from now...
guaranteed. (o:

when i prune that particular rose,
i always wear thick gloves
a thick hat,
and a pair of goggles...
(i'm not joking about this, btw)!

Another rose that i like very much
is the rugosa -- Delicata.
beautiful shade of pink and it
is also as tough as nails in our climate.
has tons of nice flowers all summer long.

most of the roses i've grown here are old varieties...
moss roses, etc...
i used to order about 4 or 5 roses from the
heritage rose part of Pickering Nursery's catalogue
each year.
haven't done that for a few years now though.

rose~

just came across something interesting.

landscape rose cane hardiness charts
based on studies in Minnesota.
extension.umn.edu

quite interesting.
i just checked through the varieties
and see quite a few that grow here
or that i've tried over the years.
the survivors are definitely in that
group that rate about 8 to 10
on the charts.
i see quite a few of my failures
down in the lower ratings.

might just take a look through
the chart and order a couple of
new bushes for next spring.
