Mostly I was too busy trying not to get killed by taxis (half the cars are taxis) or hustled by vendors to think about investments.

Well, in downtown Lima you can get a large apartment with a view of the Pacific (when the fog lifts) for about $130,000 and could hire servants and eat well for a thousand dollars a month or so.
