Yeah, I used to work for them - actually a part of what is now Delphi - about 10 years ago. That whole sector is a huge disaster area now - kind of like New Orleans, and the levee has long ago broke on them too...

I'm glad to be out of there - and away from the sinking ship...

Reports: Miller says Delphi collapse could 'fatally wound' GM; urges slashing workers' pay.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Delphi Corp.'s chief executive said a collapse of the auto supplier, which has filed for bankruptcy protection, would damage most of the world's automakers, and that the company can save its pension plan for U.S. hourly workers only if unions agree to work for a third of their old pay and benefits, according to two separate news reports published Tuesday.

More on Delphi:
What GM did - was take the most uncompetitive parts of itself say 10 years ago - the auto parts operations - and they put them in a unit called Delphi. Then, in 1999, they spun this unit off. It was uncompetitive, and now 6 years later - in 2005, it files bankruptcy.

So they essentially had the most uncompetitive part of GM separate - and go bankrupt already.

Very clever or sneaky, or just pragmatic - I'm not sure which.

My guess is this was the long-term plan/opion all along - as long as 10 years ago.
