Newt and Dick Armey predicted a depression if tax hikes under Clinton went through. Just the opposite happened. We had the most vibrant economy ever, and everything was more than paid for. The markets responded enthusiastically and by 2000 Bush (who cheated to succeed CLinton) inherited what was estimated to be a huge-huge surplus.

So what did Bush do? Squandered it completely, stopped taxing the rich and now in 5 years has produced the largest deficits in the history of the planet.
