Hi Mike,

"Has anyone else bought a steak lately?"

I've seen steaks going for $35/lb in one high end store. Just a few years ago the high end cuts were maybe $14.99/lb.

"How about a coke machine?"

Speaking of the other Coke...I spoke to someone in the know about that and according to him it is one product that has actually declined in price by a considerable amount in the past 5 years. And I don't think it is the demand side that is responsible for that. It really makes you wonder if, despite the war on terrorism, our borders aren't even easier to penetrate than they were before. But I guess that is another issue.

Getting back on track; does anyone remember what a tooth filling cost five years ago. To my recollection it was about $40 or so. Guess what? Now it's about $90-$100. I don't know if there is a reason for this as in they are using some exotic new materials but I doubt it.

And then there is the plumber who is charging $87/hour. His excuse was that his truck used for the business cost him a whopping $40K. I countered that I have a friend with a PhD in physics(how much did that cost?) who, as a senior software architect, makes something less than he does. Quite a bit, in fact, although he's well paid.
