You mean like the ones we are spending Billions to construct right now?

Problem is... they ain't exactly 'permanent' if the locals don't want us there anymore. Just money down the drain (and, borrowed money at that!)

I expect that a fractured 'Iraq' comprised of three 'mini-states', the Shi'a Republic in the south, the Kurdish state in the north, and a rump Sunni statelet in the west... will only welcome US bases and troops in Kurdistan, while they would be absolutely no-go in the Sunni heartland, and Iran's increasing influence in the Shi'a Republic will rapidly bring an end to US bases in the south.

Only the Kurds need us / would welcome us... because they need US influence to keep Turkey off of their backs... and Turkey needs the US there to try to stop Kurdish rebels from infiltrating Turkey and making trouble there.
