So, in our risk assessment, how many people are likely to die from terrorist attacks, and how many likely to die from flu infections over (say) a time period of 10 yrs ? Considering the projected numbers how much should be spent on defence, wars, and homeland security, and how much should be spent on serious healthcare issues? Allocation of other resources should also be made along the same lines.

I found this link on your name suggestion of Osterholm. Although he paints a more concerned picture, the link seems more reassuring that a good grasp of the problem is maintained. It isn't just theoretical
