Most of the talk has been of him in the VP slot.... "Ahead of Sanford in the Derby’s GOP rankings are, in order, U.S. Sen. George Allen of Virginia, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour, former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, U.S. Sen. John McCain of Arizona, U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado and U.S Sen. Bill Frist of Tennessee." Yep. McCain and any southern candidate... Sanford (would be a good one), Frist, Allen, etc. Barbour might be somewhat less desirable in the slot. Romney is dust, Giuliani is toast (but has a possible future in an administration). Tancredo is out in the early innings too. "Sanford is ranked ahead of Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee and U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania." As he probably should be... but Condi is a wild card. Santorum will be on the scrap heap before the primaries after he's dusted in the PA election. "The way Frist is going, which is south in most polls, “I see Sanford eclipsing him,” says Winthrop University professor Scott Huffmon. “There’s a sizable wing in the Republican Party who could get behind a candidate like Sanford.”" Interesting... I still see Frist with a campaign financing edge. One note: South Carolina (North Carolina's poorer, less well educated, oft looked down upon neighbor) ain't exactly an 'average' American state... that will play against him.
